Ruang Arta Derau (RAD) is an independent art space in Tegallalang, Bali, founded in 2023 by Arianti Darmawan and Arta Derau, a ceramic studio initiated by artist Sekarputi Sidhiawati in 2018 and led by her since its inception.

RAD began with a simple idea: to create a place where making, exhibiting, learning, and spending time together could happen under one roof. Its architecture, developed in collaboration with Hermawan Dasmanto, was conceived around this idea—bringing different spaces and activities together while allowing each to grow in its own way.

Today, RAD houses an art space, ceramic studio, printmaking studio, risograph printing and publishing studio, artist residency, and a growing library and archive. These are not separate entities so much as different parts of the same environment. An exhibition can lead to a publication, a residency to a workshop, or a conversation in the studio to a new collaboration.

RAD works with artists, designers, writers, curators, and other cultural practitioners through exhibitions, residencies, workshops, publishing, and collaborative projects. We are particularly interested in practices that embrace experimentation, material exploration, exchange, and the possibilities that emerge through working together.

Surrounded by the rice fields of Tegallalang, RAD continues to develop as a place for making and presenting art, but also for encounters—between different practices, materials, people, and ways of thinking.
